Find out about your self-esteem

Do you feel like you are not worth it in some way? Have you been appreciated by others but still feel like you are a failure? If you do, you may be suffering from low self-esteem. Self esteem is how you value or see yourself. It is a result of all of your life’s experiences and often has very little to do with your skills and the reality of the situation. This is because of the negative experiences impacting our beliefs and assumptions about ourselves.

To find out about your self-esteem, we have given Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale below. It is a highly reliable and validated self-esteem scale, so you can be sure of its accuracy. Keep a pen and paper at the ready and select one of the four options for each of the nine questions. After selecting all of them, scroll down and find out your score.

For questions 2, 6, 7, and 9, give yourself the score that you chose (for example, for question 2, if you chose 0, give yourself a score of 0; if you chose 1, score 1; if you chose 2, score 2; and if you chose 3, score 3).

For the remaining questions (that is, questions 1, 3, 4, 5, and 8), give yourself the opposite score (that is, if you chose 0, score 3; if you chose 1, score 2; if you chose 2, score 1; and if you chose 3, score 0).

Higher scores indicate higher, healthier self esteems while scores under 15 indicate a low self esteem. Remember, low self-esteem is not something you need to be stuck with. It can be treated effectively with the right care.
